Mobile Devices and Microsoft 365

Microsoft 365 can be used on Android, iPad, iPhone, and Windows mobile devices. Microsoft Office apps are available for download on Android, iPad, and iPhone devices. Microsoft Office apps are pre-installed on Windows Phone.

Before You Begin

Illinois State University’s Microsoft 365 email can be accessed through the web or by using the app on mobile devices.

For enhanced security, if you lose your device, you may erase all data from the device through the Microsoft 365 website. The following article contains instructions for remotely wiping your device.

Android

Microsoft Office Apps for Android

Install the Office mobile apps on your Android device so you can create and edit documents. The Office mobile apps such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint allow you to create and edit documents.

To install Office mobile apps, do the following:

  1. On your phone, go to the Play Store app.
  2. Search for the Office app you would like to install.
  3. Select Install.
  4. On the App permissions screen, select Accept.
  5. After installing the app, open it on your device.
  6. On the Use Terms screen, select Accept.
  7. Select the arrow until you get to the Activate screen.
  8. Select Activate.
  9. Sign in with your Illinois State email address and password.

You will now be able to create and edit documents.

OneDrive App (Android)

To install the OneDrive app, do the following:

  1. On your phone, go to the Play Store app.
  2. Search for the OneDrive app.
  3. Select Install.
  4. On the App permissions screen, select Accept.
  5. After installing the app, open it on your device.
  6. On the Use Terms screen, select Accept.
  7. Select the arrow until you get to the Activate screen.
  8. Select Activate.
  9. Sign in with your Illinois State email address and password.

Log into the app(s) with YourULID@ilstu.edu and password. You will now be able to create new documents or view existing documents from your online OneDrive library.

Office 365 Email for Android

You may configure your Android device for use with your Microsoft 365 email account. This may be done using the mail app that comes pre-installed on your device, or you may download and install a 3rd party app, such as Microsoft Outlook for Android. To configure your device for Microsoft 365 email, please refer to the following Knowledge Base (KB) articles:

iOS Devices (iPhone & iPad)

Microsoft Office Apps for iOS Devices

Install Office Apps on your iPhone/ iPad so you can create and edit documents. The Office mobile apps such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint allow you to create and edit documents.

To install the Office Mobile apps, do the following:

  1. On your iOS device, go to the App Store.
  2. Search for the Office app you would like to install.
  3. Select the Get button.
  4. Select Install.
  5. Enter your App Store Apple ID and password. As soon as the app is installed, it will appear on your home screen.
  6. Sign in with your Illinois State email address and password.

Log into the app(s) with YourULID@ilstu.edu and password. You will now be able to create new documents or view existing documents from your online OneDrive library.

OneDrive App for iOS Devices

Install and use the OneDrive for app on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch to store, access, and share documents and other files in the cloud.

To install the OneDrive app, do the following:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, go to the App Store.
  2. Search for the OneDrive app.
  3. Select the Get button in the app.
  4. Select Install.
  5. Enter your App Store Apple ID and password. As soon as the app is installed, it will appear on your home screen.
  6. Sign in with your Illinois State email address and password.

You will now be able to access your documents stored in your OneDrive library.

Before you can edit/create new Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files on your iPad, you also have to install the Word, Excel and PowerPoint apps. When you attempt to create/edit in OneDrive, it will redirect you to the Office apps and sync this with your OneDrive library.

Microsoft 365 Email for iOS Devices:
