Adding a Co-Planner to a VPSA employee review in Cornerstone

Last modified 12/13/2024

When you launch a performance review for an employee in the Division of Student Affairs (VPSA), you will have the option of adding a co-planner to the review.

What is a Co-Planner?

A co-planner has the ability to view, update, and complete (submit) an employee review to which they have been granted access.

Indirect Manager

Some employees in the Division of Student Affairs report to a manager (according to the Human Resources org chart), but that manager does not actually supervise them on a day-to-day basis. Instead, a different person is responsible for supervising their day-to-day work. This is sometimes referred to as "dotted line" reporting or as having an "indirect manager." In a case like this, the actual manager (according to HR) is responsible for launching the employee's review in Cornerstone, but they can then add the day-to-day supervisor as a co-planner. The co-planner can then complete the review for the employee, just like the manager can.

Manager vs. Co-Planner

It is important to note that Cornerstone will display the manager's name as having completed the Supervisor Review section, even if the co-planner is the one who actually did it. This is a expected behavior in Cornerstone. All other sections in the review, including goal planning and sign off are attributed to the co-planner if the co-planner is the person to complete them.

Administrative Review

Some departments in the Division of Student Affairs may want one or more senior staff members to have access to all employee reviews in their department for administrative purposes. The senior staff member may have a role in evaluating employee reviews completed by managers prior to them being submitted in Cornerstone. In a situation like this, the manager can launch the review and then add the senior staff member to the review as a co-planner. The co-planner can then view and make changes to the employee review before it is submitted. (Once a review is submitted, it cannot be modified by the manager or co-planner.)
