Uninstalling P2P Applications

Follow these instructions to remove peer-to-peer (P2P) applications from your computer.

Peer-to-peer (P2P) applications are often used to illegally download copyrighted materials, such as music, movies, and TV shows. If you use a P2P application in this way, you are engaging in copyright infringement. To avoid legal problems and university penalties, you should consider removing all P2P software from your computer.

To remove P2P software from your computer, refer to the instructions below.

Windows Vista and Windows 7

  1. Click [Start] > [Control Panel].
  2. Click [Uninstall a Program].
  3. Look through the list of applications to find the P2P file sharing software (i.e. BitComet, LimeWire, Frostwire, OneSwarm, μTorrent, Vuse, etc.) on your computer.
  4. Select the application and click the [Uninstall/Change] button.
  5. Follow the on-screen uninstall instructions.

 

Windows 8

  1. From the Start screen, swipe upward from the middle of the screen (if using a touchscreen), or click the [down arrow], to get to the Apps view.
  2. Under Windows System, click [Control Panel].
  3. Click [Programs] > [Programs and Features]
  4. Look through the list of applications to find the P2P file sharing software (i.e. BitComet, LimeWire, Frostwire, OneSwarm, μTorrent, Vuse, etc.) on your computer.
  5. Select the application and click [Uninstall].
  6. Follow the on-screen uninstall instructions.

 

Mac OS X

  1. On the Finder menu bar, click [Go] > [Applications].
  2. Look through the list of applications to find the P2P file sharing software (i.e. BitComet, LimeWire, Frostwire, OneSwarm, μTorrent, Vuse, etc.) on your computer.
  3. Drag the application to the Trash.
