Adding a Contact to My Contacts in Office 365

Use the “People” feature, also called My Contacts to add email addresses, phone numbers, and mailing addresses to the Illinois State University’s Office 365 address book. This feature allows you to store contact information. “People” displays links to past communications between you and the sender at the bottom of the email. Redbird Mail Users Please Note: Contacts in Redbird Mail will not be moved to ‘My Contacts’ in Office 365, therefore typing an email in the To: field will not auto-complete with your previous contact information.

Before you begin

The People app in Illinois State University’s Office 365 includes an address book feature called “My Contacts”. This feature allows you to store contact information.

You can add email addresses, phone numbers, and mailing addresses to this address book. The email addresses you add are available to you in the Mail and Calendar features of Office 365.

If you plan on redirecting your Illinois State Office 365 mail to another personal email address, you will need to add your name and personal email as a contact. See the following knowledge article for further assistance: 1476: Create an Inbox Rule to Redirect All Messages in Office 365 Email.

To Add Contacts

To add a contact to the People app in Office 365, do the following:

  1. Go to Office365.IllinoisState.edu.

  2. Enter your @ilstu.edu email address in the first box.

  3. Enter your password in the second box.

  4. Click [Sign in].

  5. Click the [People] icon.

  6. If you don’t see the [People] icon, click the square icon in the upper-left corner if the window and then click the [People] icon.

  7. Your My contacts list will display By first name.

  8. Click the [New]  button above My contacts.

  9. The [Add contact] page will open. Enter information about the contact. You can enter as much or as little information as you like.

  10. When you are done, click [Save]. When you save the contact, Office 365 will attempt to find a match in Illinois State University’s people directory and will add additional information to the contact (if available).

    • For example, if you add a contact for a faculty or staff member, that person’s department, office location, and work phone number may be added to the contact.
