Access to Technical Resources for Conference Attendees

Illinois State University often facilitates conferences for a variety of departments on campus, each with its own unique technology needs and requirements. The following article is a brief overview of how conference organizers can decide which services will best suit their needs. Follow the links to the companion articles to get step-by-step instructions for each option.

My Attendees Only Need Internet Access

Choose this option if your conference attendees only require internet access to our wireless network for accessing resources that do not require authentication with an ISU account.

There are 2 ways to request guest wireless access:

Self Service (Article 4529)

  • This option allows attendees with a US-based phone number to create their own account, prior to and during the conference.
  • Access is only good until 11:59PM on the day the account is created, therefore it is necessary to create a new access for each day of the conference.

Conference Organizer (Article 4534)

  • The conference organizer creates a guest wireless account on behalf of their attendees.
  • The conference organizer can set an expiration date up to 2 weeks from the activation of the account.
  • Activation can also be delayed until a later date in order to prevent access from expiring during the conference.

My Attendees Need a Conference ID

Choose this option if your conference attendees require permissions needed to access ISU systems and web sites.

HINT: This can be particularly useful if you are holding a workshop or training session that would require some hands-on participation from attendees.

  • Conference ID’s should be requested at least 10 business days in advance of the conference.

  • Conference ID’s are similar to ULIDs that are provided to ISU faculty, staff and students, but with fewer permissions and have generic or common names.

  • The conference ID will provide access to attendees who need to log in to an ISU computer but will not give them access to certain ISU web applications or other resources. Please be sure to note your requirements in the request.

For Technical Support During the Conference:

If you experience any issues with access during the conference, please contact the Technology Support Center at (309) 438-HELP. Identify yourself as the conference organizer and explain the access issue. The Technology Support Center will assist with any issues using Conference IDs and with conference attendees connecting personal devices to the guest wireless network. They will not assist with issues on the personal devices themselves.

Monday through Friday, the Technology Support Center is available by phone between the hours of 7:30AM and 10:00PM.

Saturday and Sunday, the Technology Support Center is available by phone between the hours of 10:00AM and 6:00PM.

Outside of these hours, please contact the Incident Coordinator On-Call at (309) 438-9996.
