How to Import and Export Contacts in Microsoft Outlook for Windows

This article explains how to export and import your address book using Microsoft Outlook for Windows.

 

Export your Address Book

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Click [File] > [Open & Export] > [Import/Export] (figure 1).

 

Figure 1:

  1. Choose Export to a file and click [Next] (figure 2).

 

Figure 2:

  1. Choose Comma Separated Values and click [Next].
  2. Locate Contacts in the folder listing and click to highlight the option (figure 3).

 

Figure 3:

  1. Click [Next].
  2. Click [Browse] to select the location the file will be saved to.
  3. Click [Next].
  4. Click [Finish].

You have successfully exported your contacts from Outlook.

 

Import your Address Book

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Click [File] > [Open & Export] > [Import/Export] (figure 1).

 

Figure 1:

  1. Choose Import from another program or file and click [Next] (figure 2).

 

Figure2:

  1. Choose the appropriate file type to import from and click [Next] (figure 3).

Note: Comma Separated Values is selected by default and is the most common file type for saved contacts.

  1. Click [Browse] and select the file to import.
  2. Choose the appropriate option and click [Next] (figure 4).

  1. Choose the contacts folder and click to highlight (figure 5).

 

Figure 5:

  1. Click [Finish].

You have successfully imported your contacts into Microsoft Outlook.
